Dirleton

Dirleton lies approx. 2 miles West of North Berwick on the South shore of the Firth of Forth.

This sleepy village has grown up around Dirleton Castle which is now a favourite venue for Wedding Photographs and Receptions. The village green with it`s picturesque cottages has earned the village the name of "the prettiest village in Scotland".

At Yellowcraigs, just to the East of the village, Walks through the Woodlands and along the Sand Dunes give spectacular views to Fidra Island and is a popular picnic area. Yellowcraigs is also home to many wading and seashore birds and is therefore popular with Birdwatchers. Public Transport to and from Edinburgh and North Berwick is available on a regular basis.

While the Railway Station of Drem on the main Edinburgh / London line lies some 3 miles to the North local transport can usually be arranged.

The community has two Hotels, a General Store / Post Office, a Coffee Shop and a Caravan Park is situated at nearby Yellowcraigs.

What to see and do in Dirleton.
The broad expanse of Yellowcraigs Bay with spectacular views to Fidra Island make this area one of the most popular in the vicinity. The surrounding woodlands offer a range of nature walks, or you can ramble over the sand dunes to the beach where you can wander or just relax with a picnic.
This is a good starting point for a walk along the shore to either Gullane or Aberlady to the West or North Berwick to the East.

Dirleton Castle, built in the 13th.Century and extended in the 14 th. And 16 th.Centuries, is of course the centerpiece of the village. With it's well tended gardens and ruins this is the ideal place to visit, from an Historic point of view or merely to enjoy the surrounds. With the Golf Courses of Gullane and North Berwick within a few miles the golfer is spoiled for choice, or for those who prefer a more relaxing afternoon a game of bowls on the Bowling Green in the Castle grounds could be arranged

Dirleton also hosts Dirleton Games which is extremely popular and draws Children and Adults from the village and surrounding areas.
