East Linton.    
  East Linton lies approx. 7 Miles East of Haddington in the midst of the East Lothian countryside.

Described as being "between a big village and a small town" this thriving community is popular with Visitors and Tourists who flock to the famous Preston Mill, owned by The National Trust for Scotland just to the East of the town.

The steeple on the Parish Church in the town square is locally known as "Jessie", while historic Prestonkirk Church on the Eastern outskirts of the town is well worth a visit.

Angling along the banks of the Tyne is a popular pastime while the river also provides a pleasant riverside Walk.

Two miles South of the town lies the ruin of the 13 Th.century Hailes Castle.

Two Miles East of the town lies the picturesque hamlet of Tyninghame which was the estate village of Tyninghame Estate home to the Earl of Haddington.

Tyninghame Bay with it`s mud flats and populations of wading and seashore birds is popular with Birdwatchers. The bay also provides many Walks through woodlands and along the seashore and is an excellent starting-off point for a ramble along the beach to Dunbar to the East or Peffer Sands to the West.
Public Transport to and from Dunbar, Haddington and North Berwick.is available on a regular basis.

The community has a Hotel, Two Pubs, numerous Local Shops, Small Businesses and a Garage/Filling Station, while Two miles West of the town there is a popular Caravan Park.

   

What to see and do in East Linton.
Picturesque Preston Mill, along with nearby Phantassie Doocot, is of course a magnet for artists and photographers from far and near.

This is an ideal spot to include in a family day out with it`s interesting buildings, achinery and pleasant tranquil surroundings East Linton is a good place to start on an outing South into the Lammermuir Hills or to Hailes Castle, built in the 13Th.century, with it`s gruesome bottle dungeon. Nearby Traprain Law offers a fine walk to it’s summit with clear views all around East Lothian. The settlement on the hill, occupied from the late Bronze age to the Roman Era, has yielded some remarkable treasures The River Tyne provides some fine trout fishing or the possibility of a wander along it’s banks, while the Linn can be spectacular when the river is in spate.

The local bowling green with its Clubhouse can provide a pleasant afternoon or evening. Tyninghame Bay, 3 Miles to the East, is a popular area for picnics, bathing, bird watching or merely wandering along the beach, over the headland or around the mud-flats. This is also a good starting point for a walk along the shore to Belhaven Bay or Peffer Sands
