Tranent lies approx.12 Miles East of Edinburgh 2 Miles South of Prestonpans.

Lying by the main A1 road between Musselburgh and Haddington the town is a thriving Residential and Commuter location and is central to smaller villages such as Macmerry, Ormiston and Pencaitland.

The famous Glenkinchie Distillery lies between Tranent and Pencaitland, while Pencaitland itself is home to a Recording Studio which has recorded the world famous Rock Group Runrig.

There is a Golf course within easy commuting distance.

Public Transport from Edinburgh, Musselburgh and Haddington is available on a regular basis.

The busy town is well equipped with Hotels, Local Shops, Pubs, Restaurants, Local Businesses and Garage/Filling Stations.

This town is the ideal place to begin an outing into the Lammermuir Hills with rolling landscapes and pleasant "cleuchs" they offer unlimited possibilities for day trips, hill walking and family picnics.

Going through such villages as Ormiston and Pencaitland, which is home to the famous Glenkinchie Distillery.

You could visit nearby Winton House, or pass into the foothills themselves.
